I see this happen all the time with developer tools and technical SaaS:

The developers at the prospect’s company love you. They played with your free tier. They told their engineering manager: “This tool is awesome, we need to buy the enterprise plan.”

The founder gets excited. A $40,000 deal is on the table.

Then the contract goes to Procurement.

And into the office of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

The CFO opens your website. They read your pitch deck.

And they see:

“Clean TypeScript SDK with sub-10ms GraphQL resolution.”

The CFO doesn’t know what GraphQL is. And frankly, they don’t care.

What they care about is:

If your sales collateral only speaks the language of the end-user (the engineer), your deal will sit on the CFO’s desk until the end of the quarter… and then quietly die.

To win enterprise deals, you need two distinct narratives:

  1. For the User: “Here is how this makes your workday painless, elegant, and fast.”
  2. For the Economic Buyer (CFO/VP): “Here is how this de-risks the balance sheet, cuts engineering churn, and pays for itself in 60 days.”

Connect both dots, and deals close in weeks instead of months.

P.S.: In my sprint engagements, we map out the exact messaging matrices for both the user persona and the economic buyer. Check out how we work together.
